Pediatric Osteopathy

Pediatric osteopathic care for a baby in Toronto

Gentle osteopathic care for babies and children in Toronto, with a focus on how the body moves, adapts, and responds to everyday demands.

Pediatric osteopathy involves a gentle assessment of your child’s physical structure, movement patterns, and overall functioning. Treatment uses light, age-appropriate hands-on techniques to address areas of tension or restricted movement and support comfortable, efficient movement.

When Might Pediatric Osteopathy Be Helpful?

Parents may seek osteopathic care when their baby or child is experiencing:

  • Feeding difficulties – such as difficulty latching, discomfort during feeding, or difficulty coordinating feeding

  • Digestive discomfort – including gas, constipation, or frequent spit-up

  • Neck tension or limited movement – including a preference for turning the head to one side

  • Flat spots on the head – particularly when associated with a preference for one head position

  • Difficulty settling or frequent fussiness

  • Sleep difficulties – particularly when physical tension or discomfort may be contributing

  • Musculoskeletal concerns – such as areas of stiffness, asymmetry, or reduced movement

  • Changes in movement or development – when parents have concerns about how their child is moving or progressing

After birth

Birth is a significant physical experience for both baby and parent. Some parents choose osteopathic care following a particularly long or difficult labour, a very rapid delivery, assisted delivery, or caesarean birth.

Treatment does not “undo” birth trauma, but may provide gentle support for areas of physical tension or reduced movement that are present afterward.

What to expect

Your child's appointment begins with a conversation about their birth history, development, current concerns, and general health. I then observe how your child moves and gently assess areas of the body that may be contributing to their presentation.

Treatment is gentle and adapted to your child's age, comfort, and tolerance. Babies may be treated while being held, lying comfortably, or with breaks as needed. Sessions are responsive to your child rather than following a fixed treatment routine.

Osteopathic care can complement your child's care with their family doctor, pediatrician, lactation consultant, physiotherapist, or other healthcare professionals. Where appropriate, I will recommend additional assessment or referral.

A gentle, individualized approach

Every baby and child is different. My approach is to understand the whole picture rather than focus only on the area where a symptom appears.

The goal is to help your child move and function as comfortably as possible, while giving parents a clear understanding of what I am observing and how osteopathic care may fit into their overall care.

When to Seek Medical Care

Osteopathic care is complementary to your child's regular medical care. If you're concerned about your child's health, feeding, growth, development, breathing, or other symptoms, speak with your pediatrician or primary healthcare provider. Seek urgent medical attention for symptoms that require immediate assessment.
