What Can Osteopathy Help With?
Osteopathic Manual Practitioners do not treat disease directly, but rather treat the physical body to affect whole body health. Below are a list of conditions that have been improved by Osteopathic care.
The musculoskeletal system: sprains, tendonitis, back pain, neck pain, arthritic pain, scoliosis, pelvic pain, TMJ pain, etc.
The digestive system: bloating, gas, gall bladder issues, colitis, constipation, indigestion, heartburn, etc.
The neurological system: sciatica, all types of neuralgia, etc.
The ENT and pulmonary systems: rhinitis, sinusitis, dizziness, headaches, migraines, bronchitis, asthma, etc.
Trauma recovery: sprains & falls
The cardiovascular system: oedemas, venous congestion, heart palpitations, blood pressure issues, etc.
The nervous system: depression, anxiety, stress, sleep disorders, etc.
“I’ve been getting weekly treatments from Courtney for years. She’s great for helping with acute problems and general maintenance for the body. She’s helped me with a multitude of issues and injuries both old and new.”

Central to Osteopathy is the awareness of how each part of the musculoskeletal system (physical body) works with and influences every other part. Therefore, an Osteopathic session works with the whole body, not just one part. When there is misalignment in the muscles and bones of the body, circulation, lymphatic & nervous system function can be disrupted, often resulting in pain. By removing stresses & strains from the framework of the body, Osteopathy aims to to liberate the proper flow of blood, lymph, and nerve impulses so that the body can self-heal. As a result, a person receiving Osteopathic treatment often report experiencing less pain & improved body awareness.
During an Osteopathic session, Courtney uses hands-on therapy that involves gentle manipulations aimed to improve the structural alignment & mobility of the body. She works with the soft tissues of the body fascia and muscles) as well as with the joints, ligaments and bones. Treatments can include techniques such as myofascial release, muscle energy, & cranial balancing (through working with the bones of the face and head). Communication regarding postural habits & lifestyle patterns that could be modified to improve health is also common during Osteopathic care.
“Courtney is good! My back issues run deep and I don't expect any technique to resolve the cause of discomfort completely but to help ease it as much as possible - and that she has done. Courtney has also made me aware of certain postures I take (default to) that aren't helpful and with that awareness I try to be mindful to change my defaults. Not an easy task as it's a cycle/chicken-egg kinda thing. My issues over the years have resulted in these defaults and changing them is not so easy but with our regular visits I feel it helps. And it doesn't hurt that she is so personable and we chat the whole way through treatment ;)”

“I appreciate Courtney taking an 'overall body' approach to my original concern. It was news to me that I had, for example, connective tissue at all, and that working on that whole body aspect, among others, would bring improvement to my more specific body-part complaints. Outside of that being the reason I continue osteopathic treatment generally, Courtney as a practitioner is kind, sensitive, gentle, and has a good sense of humour! It seems to be a 2-in-1 treatment: a good laugh and talk session as well as a physical therapy.” ~ Michelle
