Osteopathy looks at how tension, stress, posture, movement habits, injury history, and compensation patterns affect the body as a whole, not just one isolated area.
When the body is under strain, people may experience pain, tightness, restricted movement, difficulty relaxing, or a general sense of physical overload. Osteopathic treatment aims to reduce patterns of tension and guarding, improve mobility, and help the body move and function with greater ease.
During a session, Courtney uses hands-on techniques that may include working with muscles, fascia, joints, ligaments, bones and other areas contributing to restriction or discomfort. Treatment is tailored to the individual and may involve approaches such as myofascial release, gentle joint mobilization, muscle energy techniques, and cranial work.
Sessions also often include conversation around posture, movement habits, stress, breathing, and lifestyle patterns that may be contributing to ongoing tension or discomfort.
“Courtney is good! My back issues run deep and I don't expect any technique to resolve the cause of discomfort completely but to help ease it as much as possible - and that she has done. Courtney has also made me aware of certain postures I take (default to) that aren't helpful and with that awareness I try to be mindful to change my defaults. Not an easy task as it's a cycle/chicken-egg kinda thing. My issues over the years have resulted in these defaults and changing them is not so easy but with our regular visits I feel it helps. And it doesn't hurt that she is so personable and we chat the whole way through treatment ;)”

What Can Osteopathy Help With?
Many people seek osteopathic care when they feel physically tense, restricted, overwhelmed, or stuck in recurring pain patterns. Common reasons people come in include:
chronic neck, jaw, shoulder, or back tension
recurring pain patterns that flare during periods of stress
persistent tightness or difficulty moving freely
headaches, jaw clenching, and nervous system overload
rib, chest, or breathing-related tension
feeling physically guarded, compressed, or unable to fully relax
recovery from prolonged stress, burnout, or periods of overload
“I appreciate Courtney taking an 'overall body' approach to my original concern. It was news to me that I had, for example, connective tissue at all, and that working on that whole body aspect, among others, would bring improvement to my more specific body-part complaints. Outside of that being the reason I continue osteopathic treatment generally, Courtney as a practitioner is kind, sensitive, gentle, and has a good sense of humour! It seems to be a 2-in-1 treatment: a good laugh and talk session as well as a physical therapy.” ~ Michelle
